Rider Massage

When planning your competition season or simply for weekend hacking and local shows, one thing that can be quite low on your list of priorities is your fitness as a rider.

It is of paramount importance that you are adequately fit for the discipline that you and your horse participate to minimise the risk of injury to both of you.

If your fitness levels are behind your horses, you will tire before him/her and put you both at risk.  As your body tires, your level of co-ordination will be affected which will have negative effects on your position, strength and balance in the saddle.

If you participate in a discipline such as Eventing, as the communication levels break down, the ‘oneness’ between you will diminish and may increase the likelihood of injury to one or both of you as you approach a fence uncoordinated and with the horse receiving mixed communication from your seat and hands.

As well as regular exercise to ensure adequate fitness, regular massage can:

¨ Help to delay the onset of fatigue

¨ Assist to reduce the risk of muscle strain/damage during medium/high intensity exercise/competition

¨ Promotes relaxation throughout the body

¨ Improve circulation

¨ Assist with removal of tissue waste

¨ Improve skin and muscle tone

¨ Improve suppleness

¨ Improve posture

¨ Improve mobility and flexibility of joints

¨ Assist in recovery following muscle strain

¨ Assist in the recovery of muscle strain/damage

As a rider, Becky Bailey has first hand knowledge of the areas of muscle that hold tension for the rider.  Equipped with a mobile massage table, she can attend either your home or yard to provide an essential body maintenance massage, or even go to your competition venue to provide pre/post competition massage for both you and your horse (with the necessary consent obtained prior to massage).

Do not forget how important your wellbeing is in conjunction with your horse, for daily exercise at home and competition.  There is little use having Sports Massage for your horse, if you then mount and ride away feeling stiff and sore with your seat affecting your horses recently massaged back muscles!
