Contraindications to Massage —

When is massage not applicable?

There are times when massage should not be performed on the equine subject and these are listed as follows—

 

¨ If the horse shows any signs of dehydration

¨ Acute, severe muscle fatigue

¨ Has very recently had a fall or injury

¨ If there is suspected haemorrhage

¨ Skin abnormalities

¨ Over an open wound

¨ Colic

¨ Undiagnosed pain/injury/lameness
